Your journey begins with a warm welcome at Kigali International Airport, where your Ripple Safaris guide will greet you. After a brief orientation, you’ll set off on a picturesque drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills and into the lush landscapes of Uganda. The journey offers stunning views of terraced farms and the Virunga Volcanoes, with a stop at the Rwanda-Uganda border for immigration formalities. As you cross into Uganda, the scenery shifts to the dense forests and dramatic terrain of the southwestern region. You’ll arrive at your lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the late afternoon, just in time to settle in and enjoy a relaxing evening. Dinner is served amidst the tranquil surroundings, with the sounds of the forest providing a soothing backdrop as you prepare for the thrilling gorilla trekking experience that awaits.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Today is the highlight of your adventure—a day of gorilla trekking in the legendary Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Here, you’ll learn about the history of the mountain gorillas, trekking protocols, and what to expect during your encounter. Accompanied by experienced trackers and guides, you’ll embark on a challenging yet rewarding trek through the thick vegetation of Bwindi. The forest is alive with the sounds of birds and other wildlife, adding to the sense of anticipation. When you finally come face-to-face with a gorilla family, the experience is awe-inspiring. You’ll spend up to an hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat, watching them interact, feed, and care for their young. The connection you’ll feel with these magnificent creatures is indescribable. After the trek, you’ll return to your lodge to rest and reflect on the day’s extraordinary experience.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

After breakfast, bid farewell to Bwindi as you embark on a scenic drive back to Rwanda. The journey takes you through more of Uganda’s stunning landscapes, with opportunities to stop along the way for photos or a leisurely lunch. Crossing back into Rwanda, you’ll head towards Volcanoes National Park, where the majestic Virunga Volcanoes dominate the horizon. Upon arrival at your lodge in the afternoon, you’ll have time to relax and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The lodge offers a perfect blend of comfort and proximity to the park, setting the stage for another day of gorilla trekking. Enjoy a delicious dinner as you unwind from the day’s travel and anticipate the adventures that lie ahead.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Your second gorilla trekking experience awaits in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. After an early start and a hearty breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the Rwandan park rangers. Each gorilla trekking experience is unique, and today you’ll explore the bamboo forests and rugged terrain of the Virunga Volcanoes. The trek may be challenging, but the reward of encountering a gorilla family in this different setting is well worth the effort. The hour you spend with the gorillas is magical, offering new insights into their behavior and family dynamics. After the trek, you’ll return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you have the option to visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where you can immerse yourself in Rwandan culture and learn about the traditions and history of the local people. The day concludes with a peaceful evening at the lodge, where you can reflect on your incredible experiences.

Day 5: Visit to Kigali Genocide Memorial and Departure

On your final day, you’ll check out of your lodge after breakfast and journey back to Kigali. Before your departure, you’ll visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful and moving site dedicated to the victims of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. The memorial provides deep insights into Rwanda’s tragic past and the resilience of its people, making it a poignant conclusion to your trip. After the visit, there’s time for a brief city tour or some last-minute shopping in Kigali’s bustling markets. Enjoy a final meal in one of the city’s fine restaurants before your transfer to the airport. As you board your flight, you’ll carry with you not only the unforgettable memories of your gorilla encounters but also a profound appreciation for the beauty and strength of Uganda and Rwanda.
